After basking in my 15 minutes of internet fame when my post hit the front page of Streetsblog, I was quickly shaken from my pedestal by pro-roaders, one of whom accused me of doing “no research” and “spewing bullshit.”
Today’s TBT is a beloved, nostalgic subject: the streetcar.
Streetcars were an effective solution to an obvious transportation problem during the industrial revolution.
I’m not going to get too in depth here, there is a ton of information out there on streetcars. The argument has been continuing for and against ever since they were pulled off the streets.
We need roads. We need good roads that are built with a purpose and have a high return on investment. Roads that have purpose and efficiently connect productive places.
The road I’m talking about though, doesn’t really fit the above criteria.
Throwback Thursday for Mankato.
Here’s the Mankato Streetcar, a victim of the automobile age. Maybe we’ll see one in the future.
